Websites as technical systems
A website has to do more than look good. It should convey its content clearly, work quickly and reliably, be cleanly structured for search engines, and remain maintainable long after launch.
EicDevCon builds company, product and subject-matter websites to the same technical standard as any other software project. Requirements, architecture and operation are considered together — the technology follows the actual need.
That can mean a custom-built solution, or WordPress where an established CMS is the better fit for editorial work, budget and operation.
What we build
Company websites
Websites for organisations and professional service providers that need to convey their services, capabilities and points of contact clearly, and stay technically sound over time.
Product websites
Websites for software, apps and other products that need explaining — with documentation, knowledge content, several languages or connections to existing systems where the project calls for it.
Subject-matter and content websites
Websites with substantial editorial content: articles, categories, series or knowledge sections. Depending on the project, that can be served by a conventional CMS or by a content architecture built for the purpose.
Relaunching existing websites
Technical and editorial modernisation of an existing site — from targeted improvements through to a complete rebuild.
Technology based on requirements
EicDevCon does not settle on a platform before the project is understood.
WordPress makes sense where content is maintained regularly by an editorial team, where standard functionality covers the need well, and where a familiar CMS interface is required.
A custom build is the better choice where there are particular requirements, where technical dependencies should stay low, where close control over what is delivered matters, or where the site has to integrate closely with other systems.
Custom solutions can be built with server-rendered PHP, purpose-built content structures, Markdown-based publishing or project-specific interfaces.
The question is not "WordPress or custom build?" but which solution suits the requirements, the operation and the work that follows.
Relaunch and migration
Websites that have grown over years tend to carry technical baggage: plugins nobody needs any more, outdated templates, tangled content structures, historical URLs.
Before a relaunch we therefore establish what is worth keeping and what genuinely has to be replaced.
Depending on the project, a migration can include:
- Carrying over and reorganising existing content
- Redirecting existing URLs
- Preserving the search engine signals that matter
- Clearing up technical dependencies
- Retiring plugins that are no longer needed
- Migrating from WordPress to a custom solution
- Rebuilding deployment and operation
An existing system is not replaced simply because another technology would be possible. A migration has to offer a technical or commercial advantage that can be explained.
Technical quality is part of the work
For EicDevCon, web development does not end at the visible layout.
Depending on the project, we account for:
Performance
Lean delivery, optimised assets, caching and as little unnecessary technical weight as possible.
Technical SEO
Clean URLs, canonicals, hreflang, structured data, sitemaps, redirects and semantic HTML.
Accessibility
Semantic structure, keyboard operation, sufficient contrast and adherence to established standards.
Data protection and security
A data-minimising architecture, external services kept under control, consent where it is required, and appropriate protection for the application itself.
Several languages
Language versions are connected technically rather than maintained as independent copies of one another.
Deployment and operation
Hosting, going live and later development are part of the architectural decisions from the outset.
Website or web application?
Not everything that runs in a browser is a conventional website.
Company, product and content websites exist primarily to communicate and publish information. Web applications typically model business processes, handle data, manage users or provide specific functionality for a particular domain.
EicDevCon builds both.
Where a website later grows into a customer area, an API integration, authentication or bespoke business logic, the technical foundation can be developed accordingly.
Working together
01 – Understand the requirements
Goals, audiences, existing content and technical constraints are established first.
02 – Decide the architecture
Information architecture, technology, content model, interfaces and operation are shaped around the actual need.
03 – Build it
Frontend, backend and content take shape within a technical structure that can be explained.
04 – Check it
Responsive behaviour, functionality, performance, SEO, accessibility and technical quality are verified before going live.
05 – Go live and keep developing
Deployment and launch are part of the project. Existing solutions can be developed further and looked after afterwards.
Discuss your web project
Are you planning a new company or product website, looking to modernise an existing site, or wondering whether a WordPress setup that has grown over the years still fits what you need?
Then we start with the requirements — not with the technology.
